Hair & Succlents

Throughout all the upheavals of my past two decades, the one constant has been my monthly hair appointment – my oasis from life’s storms - where I can browse through the trials & tribulations of our society’s beautiful peoples’ lives – it’s quite a trip. While there today, I picked up some baby succulents to add to my collection. I have started over 50 cuttings: some for my joint antique adventure (period glass isn’t selling unless it is re-purposed, as plant holders for example) & also for my mother’s senior citizen gift shop (local artists will paint pots for the little critters). Maybe this is my purpose in life & the static will clear. Nope……

SS #4 & The Tortoise

In the continuing saga of signing up for social security, I give up trying to do it on-line & call. A very nice lady explains that the credit bureaus can’t find me & therefore they can’t verify my address & therefore I can’t set up an account. While it’s nice to be incognito, it has become apparent that I need this income, so we proceeded. (Applying for benefits is another section of the website). After multiple attempts, I get back to my application & after 30 minutes or so of looping & cycling through, figure out I should push “No, Return to Application,” but I have been selecting “Yes, Save & Exit.” It’s embarrassing because not only do I design and build web sites, I am a certified on-line course developer and instructor & have done so for many years. I have been paying bills on-line for four decades; I have been arguing with computers since the early 80’s. And worst of all, once again I am back in school of all levels, messing up tests & licensing exams - the foibles of too fast visual processing in which one skips important details. Today I shall remember that the Tortoise wins the race.

Panic Button

My latest mis-adventure: I met a friend at an antique show (she is an interior decorator and is wanting to sell things she has collected over the years & we may start a little business together – a whole new world to me – more on that to come). First, you have to understand that I have no internal sense of directions (I can get lost in a building I have worked in for ten years). After spending 45 minutes trying to connect (I kept giving bad directions as to where I was), it was a great adventure & then she offered to drive me to my car. An hour later, after driving up and down rows, in various and sundry parking lots, wearing out my light blinking button, we found it. She is not deterred, and we are forging ahead. Now the question I ask myself: “Why didn’t you push the Panic Button – the one you often push by accident.”
